The Sweet Basil Experience catered for a party of 32 at our home following our Civil Partnership Ceremony in June 2006.
While Sweet Basil’s pricing was competitive, this was not the only factor that influenced our decision to use them. From the outset it was clear that Sweet Basil provided a personal service. They responded to my email enquiry with a phone call to establish our requirements in terms of timing and menu, before sending a selection of menus that they felt met our needs.
Once we had chosen a menu, Christina came to see us with food samples in order to discuss the menu and timing in more detail. As the party was to be at home, she was happy to advise us on positioning of tables etc. and requirements in terms of hiring tableware, glasses etc.
Come the day, we returned from the ceremony (having left a key for them) to find chilled champagne and champagne cocktails freshly poured and delicious canapés ready as planned. The buffet brunch that followed was a great success, with particular compliments for the English muffin canapés topped with scrambled eggs and Cumberland sausage, the cider cured ham, red onion and goats’ cheese galette and smoked haddock quiche. Despite everyone being able to eat their fill, we were left with sufficient to picnic on for a week afterwards.

Sweet Basil catered for us for an informal dinner party for approx 20 people. They provided us with a selection of ‘bowl food’ which was outstanding and perfect for the type of evening we’d aimed for. The food was all cooked at our home and was truly excellent. I would like to thank you and Jo very much indeed for a wonderfully prepared supper for John’s 60th. Everyone mentioned how delicious was the food – how tender the salmon and delicious the chicken and salads. The chocolate cake went down particularly well. It was fortunate that we had a break between the main course and pudding for a short concert, otherwise they would have been too full to enjoy the pudding. They liked it so much that no one had any space left for all the cheeses and fruit we had provided!
There was plenty of everything and so much salad left over that we gave it away to our son, next door neighbour and cleaner and still had lots left over.
You came in good time and left the kitchen as you found it (clean and tidy). Providing all dishes and serving cutlery also helped a lot. I am so delighted with the service and the quality of the food, that I have no hesitation in recommending Sweet Basil to all my friends.
